IMMUNE BALANCE FOR PERFORMANCE
PERFORM PROVIDES elite athletes a deeper understanding of their body. We use a personalised natural approach that seeks to optimise mood, focus, digestion, REDUCE seasonal infectionS, inflammation control and speed up injury recovery.
Our PERFORM programme includes monitoring the following markers
Intense exercise stress and even moderate-intensity training can impact gastrointestinal health contributing to SLOWER RECOVERY & PERFORMANCE. Physiological responses to exercise that affect gastrointestinal integrity and function is termed “exercise-induced gastrointestinal syndrome”. During exercise, body temperature increases, blood is diverted away from the gastrointestinal tract, and this can cause thermal damage and leaky gut, followed by an inflammatory response (See intestinal inflammation tab). leaky gut is attributed to the intake of non steroidal anti-inflammatories, stress and changes in microbiome balance.
Histamine is associated with common allergic response reactions including headaches, nasal congestion or sinus issues and fatigue. In addition, elevated levels of histamine induce the release of hydrochloric acid from the stomach that is linked to acid reflux. Histamine is also a neurotransmitters, when in normal levels histamine leads to mental alertness, learning and motivation. When Histamine is elevated these processes are shut down and so elevated Histamine leads to lack of motivation and brain fog.
IgA antibodies are one of the most important markers of respiratory and intestinal protection. High levels of IgA antibodies are a protective defence during intestinal damage such as leaky gut, food intolerance and elevated microbial toxins. While low levels of intestinal IgA antibodies are a sign of stress & weak immunity. Low levels of IgA are prevalent in high pressure jobs, depression and in elite athletes during intensive training.
TMAO
In some individuals, diets high in red meat have been strongly related to the hardening of arteries and the restriction of blood flow to muscles. L-Carnitine supplements have been identified as the red meat nutrient responsible for this effect. In addition, there is a link between red meat consumption and the increasing risk of inflammation. TMAO is marker for both artery hardening and inflammation in cardiovascular health as a result of animal protein or L-Carnitine consumption. Studies indicate that increased TMAO levels activate pro-inflammatory genes following animal protein consumption. IF your body type lacks sufficient levels of certain enzymes then TMAO levels will be elevated and this will hinder blood flow to muscles as well as cause inflammation that will slow down both recovery and performance.
Lysozyme is a component of early immunity defence and is largely responsible for the maintenance of the mucosal barrier integrity. Increased lysozyme values are found in case of chronic inflammation in the intestines linked to Leaky Gut.

Low Defensin levels indicate weak Immunity. Defensin is a natural mucosa antibiotic with anti-microbial effect, it is an important component of the first defence line against pathogens. Sports activity can induce physical stress, causing increased secretion of cortisol & elevated cortisol levels through exercise can decrease Defensin levels.
