Gut Appraisal Comprehensive Test
Test Method Stool
Analytes included: Quantitative beneficial aerobic & anaerobic bacteria, Yeast overgrowth, assessment Digestive residues- carbohydrates, fats, sugars, Pancreatic faecal elastase, Bile acids, calprotectin, IgA
This comprehensive test checks to see if your “microbiome” gut ecosystem is in balance, the numbers of beneficial bacteria are quantified and if low you will know which targeted probiotics you will benefit from.
A mycology (yeast) check is included, to assess for an overgrowth, this is particularly of interest if you have low levels of good bacteria following antibiotic courses, symptoms of thrush, or crave sugars.
From the stool we can see how well you digest and break down certain food groups and if you need specific digestive enzymes to help you. We can also see if your pancreas is releasing enough elastase digestive enzymes or not, if it is not patients often have malodourous stools that are pale and difficult to flush.
An inflammation assessment is carried out and this test will pick up leaky gut and possible increased risk for food intolerances.
Calprotectin helps to distinguish between functional symptoms of Irritable bowel and those from the more serious causes such as Crohn’s disease, Ulcerative Colitis and bowel cancers.
